The Minority Leader in Parliament, and Member of Parliament for Ajumako Enyan Esiam in the Central Region, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, has expressed his disappointment in the State of the Nation Address delivered by President Akufo-Addo before Parliament on Tuesday, February 27, 2024.
Dr. Ato Forson noted that, the State of the Nation address delivered by the President seeking to paint pictures of a buoyant and resilient economy is contrary to what the real state of the livelihood of Ghanaians is.
According to the minority leader, Ghanaians are not happy and that is the true state of the Nation.
He said, “Mr. Speaker, the state of our nation is hopeless. No wonder that ordinary Ghanaians including professionals are leaving our shores in droves in search of greener pastures.”
President Akufo-Addo, while presenting the SONA, touted the achievements of his administration.
According to him, the economic obstacles being experienced by Ghanaians are temporary.
Nana Akufo-Addo said, “Mr. Speaker, we stumbled, but we are rising again. We were bruised, but we are healing. We have recovered our footing. We have dusted ourselves off, and now we face tomorrow with confidence.”
However, Dr Forson insisted that the exchange rate of the cedi to the dollar currently, has affected the cost of living as well as doing business in the country.
He added that, doing business in Ghana as it stands now is unattractive.
“Mr. Speaker, $1 is today GHcent;13. Mr Speaker, under President Mahama, $1 was 3 GHcent;3.80. Mr. Speaker, a vote for Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia is a vote for President Akufo-Addo,” the Minority Leader said.
He concluded that, “Ghanaians voted for the President and appealed to the vice president to support him to succeed. Mr. Speaker, the president cannot fail alone. The President will have to fail together with the Vice-President so Mr. President, you have failed with your Vice President.”Kobina Darlington/
