Passage of LGBTQ Bill Im More Interested in the Sanctity of Ghanaian Children Sam George

The Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram and a leading proponent of the famous Proper Human Sexual Rights and Ghanaian Family Values Bill, Sam Nartey George, has given attention to the misconceptions and misinformation surrounding the controversial legislation, the anti- gay bill.

Speaking on PM Express on Wednesday 29th February, Sam George conveyed his displeasure over what he deemed as misinformation and miseducation circulating within the public space about the bill.

According to the Ningo-Prampram legislator, the assertion that the bill seeks to discriminate individuals in their job application is one of the falsehoods being peddled by some people.

He noted, "Does anyone ask you who you slept within your bedroom when applying for a job? What happens in the confines of your bedroom remains the business of you and your partner."

Reacting to the passage of the bill, the MP in his argument said that when individuals choose to define themselves by their sexual preference publicly, it becomes a matter of public policy. He defended the bill's focus on regulating such matters, asserting that public policy would naturally apply.

Hon. Sam George added that, the mainframe of the bill is to protect the sanctity of the Ghanaian child from the negative impact that the proposers of the LGBTQ+ want to bring into the country.

In sequel to that, he acknowledged that some external forces have been funding the LGBTQ+ sponsors but he, Sam George is not bothered about the funding but is interested in the mental health of children.

"If this is all about funding for you, I am more interested in the sanctity of Ghanaian children," he said.

Some human rights groups have expressed worry over the passage of the bill with reasons being the infringement of the fundamental human rights of persons believed to be LBGTQ+.  

Some groups such as Centre For Democratic Development have called on the President, Akufo-Addo not to assent to the bill.

After three years, the Proper Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill was passed in Parliament on Wednesday, February 28 after passing through the various stages of consideration in Parliament.
