National Youth Organizer of the New Patriotic Party, Salam Mustapha, has described as unfortunate remarks made by the former president HE John Dramani Mahama about NPP's government 1student 1Laptop under the Ghana Smart School Project.
According to him, it is such a "horrible thinking" which should be treated with scorn and disdain.
Last week, flagbearer of the National democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, descended heavily on the government for the decision to allocate funds to provide free tablets to senior high school students.
According to former President Mahama, it is a tactics adopted by the government to induce the students into voting for the NPP come December 7, 2024 when the general elections will be held.
“You bring a new curriculum, the children have no textbooks in basic school for the last four years and you think that giving pre-tertiary students tablets is more significant. Of course, everybody knows the political expediency," he addressed his concerns during a special public lecture at the Wisconsin International University College, Ghana,
But in a post made by the NPP National Youth Organizer, he scolded the former statesman for claining that it is an attempt to bribe the SHS students for votes.
"Such horrible thinking should be treated with scorn and disdain". It's clear to us that in the mind of Sgt Lee, he doesn't see them as human beings but rather ballot papers. Has John Mahama suddenly developed amnesia too, to forget his own RLG project with his bosom friend Roland Agambire or is it just sheer hypocrisy or dishonesty," he quizzed.
The Ghana Smart School Project aims to enhance SHS education by providing teaching and learning management systems, digital learning content, and electronic devices to all senior high and TVET schools nationwide.
This initiative aligns with the government’s efforts to promote e-learning and digitalization, in line with the Ministry of Education’s digitalization tactic for pre-tertiary education.
