EC Bars Agents of Political Parties From Observing Ongoing Votes Transfer Exercise

The Electoral Commission, through its Deputy Chairman of Operations, Samuel Tettey, has directed that, there is going to be an embargo for agents of political parties designated to be present at the district offices of the electoral commission during the Vote Transfer Exercise.
In a memorandum addressed to regional directors of the EC, and copied the EC Chair, the Deputy Chairperson in Charge of Corportae Services, stated that, the call has become essential following pockets of violence that ensued in some district offices of the electoral commissioner.
This directive is set to take effect on Monday, June 3.
“The commission’s attention has been drawn to the violent clashes occurring at some of the District offices as a result of the Transfer of votes exercise. Regional directors are to inform District Officers not to allow Agents of Political Parties to observe the Transfer of votes Exercise with effect from Monday, 3rd June, 2024”.
Though the EC seeks to block the participation of the political party agents in the votes transfer exercise, the commission adds that, in pursuant to Regulation 22 (8) of C.I 127, Returning officers are required to give copies of the transferred votes to political parties and candidates upon request.
“District officers should ensure that they strictly adhere to this requirements. Kindly treat this urgent.”
There were records of pockets of conflicts in the Awutu Senya East of the Central regional during the votes transfer exercise. Information gathered revealed that the incident happened between supporters of the NDC and NPP within the Kasoa Municipality of the Central regional.
According to the information gathered by , persons who sustained various degrees of injuries are currently receiving medical care at a medical centre.Kobina Darlington/
