The music industry is fraught with miseducation, ambiguous areas, and technical nuances that often ensnare those unfamiliar or negligent in their understanding, leaving them vulnerable to legal repercussions.
Recent developments have spotlighted a contentious issue involving Tiwa Savage and Amoako Belo, stemming from a notable Afro beats and Afro pop song. The controversy arose due to striking similarities in lyrics between Tiwa Savage composition and the earlier work by “Kilimanjaro ,” Amoako Belo causing a stir in the industry. The contentious matter underscores the requirement of understanding copyright intricacies.
a Facebook post, Amoako Belo , the writer and composer for the 'Kilimanjaro’, alleges that Tiwa Savage has infringed on his copyright by using the ‘kilimanjaro’ line for their new hit song.
He wrote: “Who is that Kilimanjaro singer? If I start right now them go say I be wicked I go strike her YouTube page down and sue her . What is the difference between the two songs? Somebody tell her to report and do the needful. That’s all.”
This has generated debates on social media. While some assert that ‘Kilimanjaro’ is not an expression created by Tiwa Savage, for which reason they cannot lay claim to it, others say there are similarities in the lyrics.
In the meantime, Tiwa Savage is yet to respond to the allegation.
Amoako Belo the "Kilimanjaro " hitmaker, assumed the No. 50 position on Apple Music Top 100: Ghana, with its song ‘Kilimanjaro" about a month ago.
