Kenyans Will Some Day Pay The Price For Their Violent Demo Sly Tetteh Warns Ghanaians

Deputy Information Minister, Sylvester Tetteh has recounted the horrific protests in Kenya resulting in the death of some citizens and eventual cancellation of some taxes that were to be introduced by the government.

Kenyan police have banned protests in the centre of the capital, Nairobi, and surrounding areas “until further notice”.

The protests began against unpopular tax rises which have later been withdrawn by the President, William Ruto.

Following the violent protests, some section of the citizenry is said to be calling for the President to resign and the security services picked intelligence that there was going to be another demonstration, hence leading to the ban.

Speaking to host Kwami Sefa Kayi  on Peace FM’s morning show “Kokrokoo”, Hon. Sylvester Tetteh, affectionately referred to as “Sly Tetteh”, narrated how he and other Ministers and Members of Parliament were caught in the middle of the protest.

He disclosed that they were locked for nine hours in a fortified place in the Kenyan Parliament whilst he was on an international assignment in the country.

Sly Tetteh further revealed that the protests became uncontrollable to the extent that some of them had to be hidden in ambulances to escape the riotous crowd.

For what he witnessed in Kenya a month ago, the Deputy Minister warned those inciting Ghanaians to replicate the Kenyan situation to desist from it.

“When you look at what has happened in Kenya today, they will pay the price for ithellip;I mean you can criticize. You can press home your demands but not to take the law into your hands to that extent because they will pay, they will pay the price,” he cautioned.

He advised that no matter Ghana’s economic situation, violence is not an option.

“hellip;no matter the form of democracy, it’s better,” he emphasized.
