The Ghana Airport organization Limited (GACL) has assured that its IT systems remain intact despite the global outage experienced on Friday, 19 July 2024.
Early on Friday, industries across the world were affected by a major IT outage impacting shops, banks, airports, and broadcasters.
In a statement issued on Friday evening, GACL said it had not been impacted by the outage, even though the global nature of the glitch has led to some flight delays and interruptions from other countries.
“Management of Ghana Airports organization Limited (GACL) wishes to inform the travelling public that it has taken note of the global IT outage currently affecting some airports and airlines worldwide.
“We would like to assure the general public that Kotoka International Airport's IT systems are intact. However, due to the global nature of the glitch, some flight delays and interruptions may be experienced from countries affected by the glitch, which may have a slight impact on Accra,” the statement said.
The organization noted that only one out of the 24 international airlines operating at Kotoka International Airport (KIA) has had to cancel some scheduled flights as a result of the outage.
“So far, out of our 24 international airlines operating at KIA, only one has had to cancel some of its scheduled flights. All other operations are uninterrupted and on schedule as usual.
“Management will persist to monitor the situation closely and provide updates to the travelling public as essential,” the statement added.
The cause of the outage, which saw users on Microsoft platforms experiencing blue error screens, has been traced to a "defect found in a single content update for Windows" issued by Texas-based cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike.
Meanwhile, the firm has assured that it is taking measures to correct the glitch.
