Presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has clarified his role as Vice President and put paid to arguments about why he has failed to implement the policies he wants to roll out now, and is rather waiting to do so under his Presidency.
Answering a question during his meeting with media practitioners on why he is not implementing his vision now as Vice President, Dr. Bawumia said, as a Vice President, he only assists the President to implement his vision.
He continued that he has limited authority but stressed that if elected President in upcoming elections, he will have full authority to implement his policies.
Throwing more light on the limited role of Vice President, Dr. Bawumia asked whether the budget that was recently approved by Parliament was his budget or the President’s.
"The budget that was approved by Parliament went to Parliament in the name of the President, so it is the President's budget. It is not my budget.”
“That is why I have outlined my own plans and my own vision which I can implement when I become President with full authority in three months, in shaa Allah”, he said.
Dr. Bawumia also chipped in a question asking if he who has never been President before is demanded to implement his vision while he is Vice President, then “what about former President Mahama who as a former President wants to come back?”
"Why didn't he do all those he wants to come back and do when he was President? He has been President before with full authority and he could have done all the things he is mentioning now. I have never been President before and I have never had full authority before. That is why I have come out with my own new ideas”, he told the media.
