Deputy General Secretary of the largest opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has cautioned the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) to be mindful of their irresponsible description of their flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama.
Mustapha Gbande told NEAT FM's morning show, 'Ghana Montie' that if the trend does not cease, his party will be forced to ‘crush’ the NPP government with more menacing counterattacks before December 7 elections.
“They [NPP] shouldn't push us. We can crush their government in the next month,” Mustapha Gbande cautioned.
He further warned that, “If we come out with the things we have, the government will crush, the nation will rise against this government. They should be calm.”
Mustapha Gbande's comment follows an indirect tag on former President John Dramani Mahama as a ‘drunkard’ by Hon. Samuel Atta Akyea.
Background
Atta Akyea during a mini-rally launched a veiled scathing attack, insinuating that somebody is a drunkard, unlike Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.
To him, the Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is a visionary leader and not a drunkard.
“Dr. Bawumia is a wise man. And he is not a drunkard. He is not a drunkard and he is wise”, Atta Akyea said amidst cheers from the crowd.
Retract & Apologize
However, even though no name was associated with the drunkard comment, the NDC through it's General Secretary, Fifi Kwetey, issued a statement demanding an apology and retraction from the NPP lawmaker for referring to their flagbearer and the former president as an alcoholic.
NPP Youth Wing
This compelled the NPP youth wing to rally their support behind the former Minister of Works and Housing after rubbishing the apology demand from the NDC.
“He who seeks equity must come with clean hands,” a portion of their statement read.
