Highlife musician, Bisa Kdei, has said that he would only consider endorsing a political party if the financial compensation is significant.
In an interview with Accra-based Hitz FM on September 2, 2024, the singer emphasised that his decision to compose a song or publicly support a political party would hinge on the amount of money offered and the potential benefits it could bring him.
“If somebody gives me something huge that could help me in such a way that even if people got annoyed at me, I wouldn’t mind, then why not,” Bisa Kdei stated.
“But if it’s chicken-alter and I end up losing fans, then no,” he added, stressing that the money must be worth the possible backlash.
Bisa Kdei also touched on the broader issue of creatives endorsing political parties, explaining that many such decisions are driven more by financial requirement than by genuine political beliefs.
He urged fans to understand that creative expressions, including political endorsements, are often just performances and should not be taken too seriously.
“There’s something we need to understand when it comes to creatives: it is a feeling, it’s just an act. So the fans shouldn’t take things too seriously,” he advised.
He also noted that many artistes who have endorsed political parties in the past likely did so because they needed the money for significant personal reasons, rather than out of a strong political conviction.
