Ghana Deserves A Better Pitch Says Angola Coach Pedro Goncalves

Angola head coach Pedro Goncalves has expressed his dissatisfaction with the condition of the Baba Yara Stadium following his team's 1-0 win against Ghana in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.
The pitch, which has been under scrutiny, was highlighted on social media prior to the match, raising concerns about its suitability for international play.
Ghana's coach, Otto Addo, had previously described the pitch as "concerning" during the pre-match press conference, and Goncalves echoed these sentiments after the game. "We tried to play good football, but the pitch made it challenging," he stated.
Goncalves emphasised that a country like Ghana deserves a better playing surface, given the quality of its players. "They have good players and they deserve a better pitch," he added, underlining the need for improvements.
The poor condition of the pitch was attributed to a five-day church program held at the stadium in July, which left the playing surface in disarray.
With this result, Angola now sit at the top of Group F, while Ghana finds itself in third place, trailing behind Angola and Sudan.
The Black Stars will be looking to bounce back in their next match against Niger, scheduled for Monday, September 9.
