The largest opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has announced its intent to embark on a nationwide protest should the Electoral Commission (EC) fail to address concerns raised regarding irregularities captured in the Provisional Voters Register.
National Chairman of the NDC, Johnson Asideu Nketia, who disclosed this, said the nationwide protest will come off on 17th of September.
“We hope the Commission will listen and listen to us very well,” he said.
"On the 17th of this month [September], the NDC is embarking on a massive nationwide demonstration in all 16 regional capitals, descend on the Electoral Commission officers and we in Accra will descend to the headquarters and present further petitions as to why we think that they should conduct themselves in a manner that will guarantee peaceful, free and fair election.”
Forensic Audit
The NDC has on several occasions argued that the voters’ register is not fit for purpose citing certain irregularities that has been found in the register during the Voters exhibition exercise which ended on August 27, 2024.
Thus, it has requested for a forensic audit by an independent body before the register can be considered for the December general elections.
