NPP Walewale Primaries Agent Causes Chaos Counting of Ballots To Be Held At Police Station

There is confusion and uncertainty over the rerun of the Walewale constituency parliamentary primaries of the New Patriotic Party held today.

The first election which was held in January this year was annulled by the High Court in Tamale after it found electoral breaches which included impersonation.

The incumbent Member of Parliament for the constituency, Hajia Lariba Abudu, filed a suit against her contender, Dr. K. B. Mahama, claiming he was wrongfully adjudged winner.

The rerun following the court order was today fraught with another controversy after an agent for Dr. Kabiru Mahama reportedly disrupted the process.

The agent is alleged to have sensed defeat of his candidate during counting of the ballots, therefore causing chaos by interrupting the electoral process.

The agent is said to have scattered the ballot boxes.

Nonetheless, the ballots including those scattered were secured and the boxes have been left in the custody of the Police at Walewale.

However, Dr. Kabiru Mahama’s camp reportedly claims victory although counting is yet to be done and also no results declared yet.

Meanwhile, agents and supporters of the incumbent MP, Hajia Lariba, are insistent on recounting of the ballots at the Police station.

They assert that their candidate’s pile of ballots signifies victory for her.

All officers from both the NPP and the Electoral Commission are at the Police station to resume counting.
