The U.S. Ambassador Virginia E. Palmer to Ghana along with the Chief of Naval Staff, Issah Yakubu, and senior officers from the Ghana Navy and the Ghana Armed Forces has visited the Ghana Navy Training Command (NAVTRAC) in the Volta Region to deliver security assistance announced last year.
This new equipment and facility, with a value of over 24 million Ghc ($1.5 million), will enhance Ghana’s maritime security capabilities. The two 38-foot DEFENDER Class Safe Boats are in addition to the two boats that were delivered last summer to the Ghana Navy Special Boat Squadron.
During the ceremony, Ambassador Palmer remarked, “The United States takes immense pride in our long-standing partnership with Ghana, a partnership rooted in shared commitments to security, democracy, and prosperity.
This ceremony is more than just a handover; it symbolizes our joint efforts to ensure the Ghana Navy is well-equipped to safeguard its waters and sustain these crucial assets.”
The boat storage facility was constructed by Seabees from the United States’ 22nd Naval Construction Regiment and their 1st, 11th and 133rd battalions working alongside Marines from the Hershel Woody Williams Marine Detachment Engineer Platoon.
