Security Agencies Resolve Misunderstanding at Missiga Checkpoint At Bawku

The Ghana Police Service has announced that the impasse between the various security agencies have been resolved amicably following a shootout between the Police Officers and officials of the Customs on Wednesday, 9th October, 2024 at the Missiga Checkpoint, near Bawku.
A video clip sighted by s social media saw the exchange of gunshots between the officers from the Ghana Police Service and some Customs officials at the Missiga Checkpoint.
News gathered bythat, the chaos broke out when the Police officers prevented customs officials from inspecting a truck allegedly smuggling cocoa beans.
The Customs Officers believed that the truck was smuggling cocoa beans and insisted on carrying out an inspection of the truck but the police officers resisted vehemently leading to a heated standoff between the two security agencies.
This escalated until the military was called to intervene to bring the situation under control.
However, an official statement from the Public relations directorate of the Ghana Police Service stated that the Police intercepted smuggled cocoa on October 9, 2024 based on the intelligences gathered and were in the process of escorting the truck to the Bawku Divisional Command for the consignment to be handed over to COCOBOD, while the suspects investigated and brought to book.
There is, therefore, a scheduled meeting between the Regional Security Council under the chairmanship of the Upper east Regional Minister as efforts are being made to put an end to such occurrences in the near future.Kobina Darlington/
