One person has been arrested, while other suspects are being trailed by security after violent clashes at Mamobi in Accra last Sunday, that left nine persons injured.
The name of the suspect has not ben disclosed by the police.
The clash occurred between supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) during separate health walks in the constituency at the weekend.
Both supporters had been embarking on the keep-fit walk every weekend as part of their campaign activities.
However, last weekend walk ended abruptly when a group of motorbike riders from one side encountered supporters from the opposing group along the route, leading to the clashes.
According to eyewitness reports, a verbal altercation between the groups escalated into a physical confrontation.
Statement
The police, in a statement issued yesterday, said there was a manhunt for the other alleged perpetrators of the violence.
“So far, one person has been arrested in connection with the incident, and we are working around the clock to get all identified perpetrators arrested to face justice,” the statement said.
It assured the public that calm had returned to the neighbourhood of Mamobi after the incident.
“The Ghana Police Service has restored calm at Mamobi, a suburb of Accra, following disturbances between supporters of the NPP and the NDC in the area that resulted in the injuries to nine persons.
“Seven of the injured victims have been treated and discharged, while two are still receiving treatment at the hospital,” the statement added.
Assurance
The statement further said that an intelligence-led operation was currently ongoing to get the perpetrators who have since been identified arrested to face justice.
It gave an assurance that investigations into the disturbances were still ongoing to bring the culprits to book.
