Dec 7 Election NPP Remains Committed To Peace NAPO

The Vice Presidential Candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh says the NPP remains resolute to ensuring peace before, during and after the 2024 general elections.

Dr. Opoku Prempeh said this on Tuesday, October 22, 2024, when a delegation from the Eminent Persons Group of the Christian Council of Ghana paid a courtesy call on him at the Bawumia 2024 Campaign Office in Accra.

In his remarks, Dr. Opoku Prempeh emphasized the NPP's strong track record of deepening democracy in Ghana, citing how the party has historically handled electoral processes.

"In 2008, the NPP lost the elections by the narrowest of margins, just 23,000 votes, but we accepted the outcome and power was peacefully transferred from President Kufuor to the late President Mills", he said.

Dr. Opoku Prempeh, affectionately called "NAPO", added the NPP is unwavering in its commitment to safeguarding the unity and stability of Ghana.

"Our track record speaks for itself. The NPP is a party that values peace and we will persist to uphold this principle in the upcoming elections, ensuring the nation remains united", he stressed.

The NPP's Head of Electoral Affairs, Mr. Peter Mac Manu, addressing the delegation, also condemned the attacks by the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) on the Electoral Commission.

He noted that the allegations against the electoral management body have proven to be frivolous and driven by political mischief.

Mr. Mac Manu urged the Eminent Persons Group to denounce all inflammatory rhetoric that could threaten the peace of the country in the lead-up to the elections.

NPP General Secretary Mr. Justin Kodua Frimpong, on his part, condemned the NDC's confrontational stance on elections and encouraged all stakeholders to prioritize the nation's peace above their political expediency.

The Christian Council delegation led by Rev. Enoch Thompson were satisfied with the NPP's assurance to ensure peace and thanked the party for its willingness to engage in constructive dialogue.

Rev. Thompson further affirmed the Christian Council's commitment to holding all political parties accountable to a peace pact ahead of the 2024 elections, ensuring the process is conducted in  respect for the democratic principles.
