Aburi Chief Criticizes Successive Govts For Neglecting Iconic Aburi Garden

The Akuapem Adontenhene and Aburihene, Otobour Gyan Kwasi, has voiced his deep disappointment regarding the ongoing neglect of the iconic Aburi Botanical Gardens by successive rated as a cornerstone of Ghana’s tourism sector, the gardens have sadly fallen into a state of disrepair, receiving little attention or investment from both past and current administrations.
Speaking at the 36th annual Odwira durbar in Akuapem Aburi, Otobour Gyan Kwasi passionately expressed his frustration, emphasizing that despite countless efforts to highlight the gardens' deteriorating condition, successive governments have consistently failed to prioritize their revitalization."The Aburi Gardens are not just a tourist attraction; they are a vital part of our cultural heritage...It is disheartening to see them left to decay while they have the potential to be a thriving hub for both local and international visitors", he stated.
Moreover, Otobour Gyan Kwasi raised concerns about the financial implications of this ed out that although the gardens generate significant revenue for the government, local Chiefs do not receive any royalties from these earnings, despite the gardens being located on their ancestral lands.
"This is a deeply unfortunate situation that needs to be rectified", he d on the government to take immediate action to restore the gardens which he believes could not only enhance the Region's appeal but also provide a boost to the local economy.
In addition to his concerns about the gardens, Otobour Gyan Kwasi also urged for an expansion of the Aburi-Nsawam ighted that the deteriorating condition of the Accra-Kumasi road has forced many commuters to divert to the Aburi-Nsawam route, resulting in increased traffic congestion and a higher risk of accidents, particularly for those unfamiliar with the area.
"Improving this road is crucial for the safety of our residents and visitors alike", he remarked, emphasizing the need for prompt action to alleviate the pressure on this vital transportation route.
The event also saw the Gyaasehene of the New Juaben Traditional Area, representing Daasebre Nana Kwaku Boateng III, commend Otobour Gyan Kwasi for his unwavering dedication over the past 36 ed Otobour for his significant contributions to fostering peace and stability within the Akuapem Traditional Area, noting that his leadership has been instrumental in navigating various obstacles.
In a related call for community harmony, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Akuapem South Municipality, Hon. Frank Aidoo, urged residents to sustain calm and avoid any form of electoral violence as the election period approaches.
Hon. Aidoo emphasized the crucial importance of peace during this sensitive time, encouraging community members to prioritize unity and collaboration.
He reminded citizens that violent disruptions not only harm individuals but also jeopardize the integrity of the democratic process, potentially tarnishing the area’s reputation and hindering its development.
"We must work together to ensure a peaceful electoral environment", he stated, reinforcing the message that a stable and harmonious community benefits everyone.
