Former President and NDC flagbearer, John Mahama has stirred controversy for making inferences to religious leaders in the country.
In comments many people have described as demeaning to the religious leaders, Mahama told an audience during a campaign event in the Northern Region that Ghana is not looking for a Pastor nor an Imam to be President.
"We are not looking for a Rev. Father to lead us in prayer on Sunday in church. We are not looking for an Imam to lead us in prayer on Friday for congregational prayers. We are looking for somebody who is capable of managing this country”, John Mahama said as his audience looked shocked.
John Mahama emphasized that religion should be ''put aside", hence stressing both Christians and Muslims should be set aside because Ghanaians are looking for someone who can run the country better.
As Mahama's video went viral, some people have expressed disappointment in him for making what they called absurd analogy by using religious leaders.
Many people who found Mahama’s comments very disparaging argued he means Pastors and Imams don't posses the right qualities to lead the nation.
They also were of a strong view that Mahama is becoming worried of the growing support from the masses for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the NPP presidential candidate.
Former President Mahama has come under harsh criticisms over his utterances with the latest being his use of "stupid" in reaction to Dr. Bawumia's 50 questions to him.
