Vice President and New Patriotic Party (NPP) Presidential Candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has described former President John Dramani Mahama’s economic management as the worst among the presidents of Ghana’s fourth Republic.
Speaking at the maiden Ghana CEO-Presidential Gala Dinner 2024 in Accra, Dr. Bawumia highlighted obstacles faced during Mahama’s tenure, noting shortcomings in job creation, gross international reserves, primary balance, and agricultural growth.
Dr. Bawumia said the current NPP government had managed to create 2.6 million jobs from 2017 to 2024 despite a challenging global economic environment.
The event, themed "Reigniting the Business Economy and Social Contract for Growth: A Business Manifesto for Political Accountability and Sustainable Development," was attended by notable business leaders.
Dr Mahamudu Bawumia therefore expressed confidence in further driving economic growth through innovative bold solutions and business-friendly policies although there are some obstacles we face as a country and that the Ghanaian economy will thrive again.
McDan Group CEO, Daniel McKorley, also spoke at the event, urging the government to implement policies that better support the private sector.
He stressed the need for an enhanced partnership between the government and private enterprises to enhance economic growth.
