It was a beautiful scenery Sunday morning at Atimatim in Afigya Kwabre East Constituency of the Ashanti Region when Christians and Muslims gathered in the town's Roman Catholic Church uniting in support of Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia's presidential bid.
As part of his usual engagements with community stakeholders during his campaign tours, Dr. Bawumia engaged the Kwabre East constituents and the community including the traditional rulers, Clergy, opinion leaders, Zongo Chiefs and Imams.
On Sunday, the Roman Catholic Church having the Imams and Muslim populace in service together with Christians reflected the beautiful diversity and religious tolerance of Ghanaians.
"This is beautiful. To have Muslims and Imams in a Church building discussing national issues is so refreshing. This cannot happen in so many countries", a traditional ruler said.
An Imam, who spoke on behalf of his colleagues, also underlined the beauty of the day as the two religious groups sat to listen to Dr. Bawumia.
Dr. Bawumia was marveled by this display of religious unity, hence applauding the Muslim and Christian communities for the peace between them which, he noted, is crucial for Ghana’s stability.
"There is peace and understanding between Muslims and Christians in Ghana and it is one of the reasons we have peacehellip; It is so beautiful to see Imams here in this chapel. This reflects our mutual understanding and respect for each other. You will hardly see this anywhere in the world but this is happening in Ghana one”, Dr. Bawumia remarked.
He charged both groups to “persist to live in harmony and persist to respect one another”.
The gathering consisting of the traditional leaders, Clergy and the Imams further commended Dr. Bawumia for his character, impact and vision as well as offered prayers for him while they threw their support behind him.
