Louisa Atta-Agyemang from Ghana has been elected as the youngest Chairperson of the Democrat Union of Africa (DUA), an alliance of center-right political parties across Africa. Her historic election was uncontested, with 21 political parties participating in the voting process and giving her an overwhelming 90% votes.
Members of the DUA have congratulated Louisa, who also serves as the Deputy Chief Executive of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) in charge of Operations. They have pledged their support to help her succeed in this new role.
Her election follows the successful organization of the DUA’s 2024 Forum, held in Accra on August 8, 2024. The Forum, themed “Strengthening Democratic Institutions for Political Stability: Crafting Africa’s Response,” was a resounding success and attracted significant attention. Vice President of Ghana, Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, served as the Guest Speaker at the event, which was widely praised for its excellent planning and execution.
As the Convener of the Forum, Louisa Atta-Agyemang led a collaborative effort that brought together center-right thought leaders and political parties, including the Forum for Democratic alter (Uganda), Inkatha Freedom Party (South Africa), Unity Party (Liberia), PDCI-RDA (Ivory Coast), Popular Democratic Movement (Namibia), The Third Republic Party (Tunisia), RENAMO (Mozambique), Kenya African National Union (Kenya), Forces Deacute;mocratiques Pour La Reacute;publique (Togo), UNITA (Angola), CHADEMA (Tanzania), and many others.
The Forum featured discussions on a wide range of topics crucial to Africa’s political stability and democratic governance. Among the notable speakers were Louisa Atta-Agyemang herself, Hon. Tony Peter Clement (former Canadian Minister of Industry and President of the Treasury Board), Mr. Peter Mac Manu (former National Chairman of Ghana’s New Patriotic Party), and Prof. Mohammed Haruna (Deputy General Secretary of the NPP).
In the lead-up to the Forum, the DUA delegation paid a courtesy call on President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, who serves as the DUA’s Patron, further cementing the event’s significance.
Louisa Atta-Agyemang’s election marks a significant milestone for the Democrat Union of Africa, and her leadership promises to further the Union’s mission of strengthening democratic institutions and promoting political stability across Africa.
