BOST Supports Akosombo Schools with over 11000 Educational Materials

The Bulk Oil Storage and Transportation organization Limited (BOST) has distributed over 11,000 exercise books and supplementary reading materials to six basic schools in Akosombo, located in the Asuogyaman District of the Eastern Region.

The beneficiary schools, including Atimpoku RC Basic School and Atimpoku L/A Junior High School, received the items as part of BOST's nationwide educational support programme.

The initiative aims to distribute 100,000 learning materials nationwide and targets schools in communities impacted by BOST’s operations.

Mr Yaw Antwi Dadzie, BOST’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Manager, explained the rationale behind the programme.

“We are ensuring that schools in communities surrounding our depots have the essential learning materials to boost education. So far, we have covered areas like Kumasi, Savelugu, Buipe, Debre, and Bolga, distributing over 80,000 materials,” he said.

He added that the initiative aligned with Sustainable Development Goal 4, which promotes equitable and quality education.

Mr. Dadzie noted that a needs-based assessment conducted two years ago informed the decision to support schools with educational resources.

Beyond distributing learning materials, he said that BOST had also demonstrated its commitment to education through a GH₵1.5 million scholarship programme for 50 students at the University of Mines and innovation (UMaT).

The scholarship covers tuition, laptops, stipends, and other support.

In addition, he said the organization was actively contributing to environmental sustainability through tree-planting initiatives aimed at reducing its carbon footprint.

Headteachers of the recipient schools expressed gratitude for the timely intervention, highlighting the significant obstacles they face in providing basic learning materials for pupils.

“Teaching and learning go hand in hand with assessment, but some pupils lack exercise books, making it challenging to track their progress,” one teacher said.

“These exercise books have come at the right time, allowing us to better evaluate how learners are faring in teaching and learning,” another headteacher added.

They noted that the donation would help address an urgent need, but the overall demand for learning materials remained significant.

“Each child needs about 15 exercise books to meet their academic requirements. We hope for more support to ensure sustained academic improvement,” the teachers added.
