Ghanaian musician Fameye has voiced his disappointment after failing to secure the coveted 'Songwriter of the Year' award at the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA).
Fameye who was nominated alongside Black Sherif, Diana Hamilton, Ewura Abena, Piesie Esther, and Perez Muzik missed out on the top honour in the songwriting category, which recognises artistes who excel in crafting impactful and meaningful lyrics.
The award went to another deserving artiste, Perez Muzik, prompting Fameye to reflect on his journey and artistic achievements.
In recent interview on Daybreak Hitz, the Nothing I Get crooner expressed a mix of emotions, including a sense of disappointment and longing for recognition.
“Honestly, I was a little bit disappointed, even though the awards are just for bragging rights. Sometimes your fans get disappointed because they want to get the bragging right and be sitting somewhere and boast about you “Honestly I knew that if I don’t win maybe Piesie Esther will take it.
I didn’t even know that Perez song. I only heard it after he was announced as the winner of the category. But I think he deserved it because it sounded nice when they played in the auditorium,” he said.
While Fameye's disappointment may be visible, he assured Fameye that the loss has only ignited his determination to further hone his craft and create music that resonates deeply with his audience.
