Senior Research Fellow on the Kumasi Technical University, Dr. Smart Sarpong, has despatched a plea to the three Teacher Unions towards the appointment of Dr. Eric Nkansah as Director-General of the Ghana Education Service to rethink their choice.
The Teacher Unions consisting of Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT) and the Coalition of Concerned Teachers Ghana (CCT-G) are on strike over government's refusal to terminate the appointment of the brand new GES Director -General.
Speaking on Peace FM's "Kokrokoo" dialogue program, Dr. Smart Sarpong debunked claims that Dr. Eric Nkansah shouldn't be a instructor, on which premise the lecturers have objected to his appointment.
Opposing the opposite place of the lecturers that GES Director-General is a banker, Dr. Smart Sarpong emphasised that "as at the time he moved to the Ministry of Education, he wasn't a banker. He was a teacher. He has also worked at the Education Ministry as Director in charge of Tertiary education . . . I think he has a blend, a combination of all that they need as a teacher".
He known as on his colleagues to "give him (Dr. Eric Nkansah) the opportunity to demonstrate what he has. There are several other means to call for his head, for instance a misconduct, if he is underpeforming but this person is fresh. You don't know what he can offer...I will plead that they should allow Dr. Eric Nkansah the opportunity; let's watch what he has to offer the Ghana Education Service".
