Dennis Miracles Aboagye, the Director of Local Government Services at the Office of the President, says Ghana's democracy should be customized as part of measures to enhance the progress of the nation.
Dennis Miracles, speaking in relation to the fall of the cedi and other economic pressures on Peace FM's "Kokrokoo" show, raised concerns over how people misbehave in the country and go scot free as well as how the international market isn't favorable to Ghana partly due to the democratic structures in the country.
He expressed worry over how when politicians decide to correct a wrongdoing, especially in the public sector, some unions rise against the politicians.
He also found it challenging understanding why a politician cannot address the public service workers when they go wrong.
Dennis further raised a red flag over the way the nation has been structured seemingly to favor offenders of the law because of the kind of democracy in Ghana.
To him, the country's democracy has to be redefined saying "we have to customize our democracy. We have taken it hook, line, sinker and implementing it like it's been written in the books...We are implementing what the Whites wrote in the book but we forgot that we had Chiefs while the Whites didn't have. We forgot; we forgot we had traditional authorities when the Whites didn't have".
He continued; "So, today, when you look at our democracy, we've kicked our traditional authorities to the side. Now, they are fighting to find expression in the sort of governance we are running".
"If we wanted to customize (our democracy), we could have taken cognizance of the kind of governance structure that was existing to formulate the democracy we want," he emphasized.
