The Director-General of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC), Amin Alhassan, has stated that his organization has not received any funding from the government to run the corporation, apart from the salaries paid to the staff.
He made this statement when the Minister of Information, Fatimatu Abubakar, paid a courtesy call to the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation.
According to the Director-General, his organization has been operating independently for a long time without government intervention.
He noted that the Outside Broadcasting (OB) vans owned by the state corporation were provided by former President John Kuffour during his tenure, and the two vans have been operational ever since.
He appealed to the Minister of Information to assist in providing two OB vans for the media house, to be stationed in Accra and Kumasi.
Fatimatu Abubakar also mentioned that she was pleased to see that the media house is performing well with regard to social media.
She assured GBC that her ministry would provide tools and resources to aid in the coverage of the upcoming elections.
She acknowledged that her ministry is aware of the attacks on journalists and is keeping them in mind.
She concluded her visit with a tour of the corporation.
