Former Education Minister, Dr Mathew Opoku Prempeh took a trip down memory lane when the New Patriotic Party (NPP) led Nana Addo's infamous policy, Free SHS was launched to ensure no child is deprived of school placement in Ghana.
Seven years later, the now-running mate for the NPP is proud to be associated with the policy that he said is “undoubtedly the single most impactful social policy ever implemented in our country and Africa south of the Sahara.”
NAPO, affectionately called in the political fraternity, took to his Facebook handle to appreciate President Nana Addo Dankwea Akufo-Addo's dream to ensure the birth of the Free SHS was not just a mere policy but a successful one.
“Today, thanks to the President’s vision, the narrative is different, in spite of obstacles, with the SHS population moving from 800,000 students at the end of 2016 to over 1.4 million today. This is fantastic by any measure.” His post reads.
He, however, believes a continuation of government with Dr Mahamudu Bawumia as president will bring more achievement in the educational sector and the country's development.
“As I reflect with modest pride over the role I was honoured to play in this initiative, I am fortified by the hope this government continues to inspire in our youth through the power of education, and I am convinced that under a Dr Bawumia government, we will do even more to consolidate the gains we have made under FSHS in particular and education in general in our beloved country.”
Dr Mathew Opoku Prempeh further opined, “Indeed it is possible!” with Dr Bawumia to transform Ghana.
