The La District Court has given the prosecution in the O’Reilly Senior High School murder case 24 hours to submit a report on the age of the student accused of the murder of a Visual Arts student on campus.
The confusion over the accused person’s age has become a subject matter in the committal proceedings.
While the family of the deceased claims the accused, who had been provisionally charged with murder, is 24 years old, others have also indicated that he is 18 years.
This prompted the court to order the medical examination to ascertain his age.
In court on Thursday (Sept 19, 2024) the prosecution led by Chief Inspector Paul Osei Adjei informed the court that the report would be ready on Friday [September 20).
Chief Inspector Paul Osei Adjei said the postmortem report was ready adding, “frantic efforts are being taken to get all reports ready to ascertain his age”.
He added that the blood samples of the accused (name withheld) has been taken by the Police Hospital, praying the court for a one-week adjournment but the Court declined that request.
Order
The presiding judge, Adwoa Benaso Asumadu-Sakyi said a case of such public interest could not be allowed to delay.
“I won't accept any delay. I will adjourn the case to tomorrow,” she said.
Consequently, the court ordered that the hospital report indicating the age of the accused should be produced to the court on Friday, September 20.
